About me
I began teaching English as a foreign language over 20 years ago in Italy. I was thrown into teaching Young Learners straight off the CELTA, initially a disastrous and then a delightful journey.
I became Young Learners Co-ordinator and subsequently Senior Teacher Adults and Teacher Training, CELTA Tutor, YL-Extension to CELTA Main Course Tutor and DELTA Supervisor at the British Council in Naples. I also took on a regional role with Cambridge Assessment English overseeing the training of Speaking Examiners in the South-West of Italy. I am also an author and editor for some of the leading ELT publishing houses.
Developing teachers is something I have always been passionate about. I was fortunate to travel and train teachers in Hong Kong, Germany and Romania.
In my travels, I noticed the difference in YL teachers’ confidence worldwide. This has to do with the support and training they had. Some teachers have supportive staffrooms, and others are left to work it out independently. With this in mind, I opened a Facebook group to support teachers, and I am about to launch a course ELT: Confident YL Teaching Essentials.
Understanding learners, making them central to teaching, and building courses to support them is integral to my teaching and training. Underpinning and understanding this has helped me enormously as a teacher, and my aim as a trainer is to share this learning with you.
Learning with me, you will:
- Understand your learners better, plan and teach more effectively.
- Learn from other teachers and experts.
- Build a greater understanding of how learners learn, be more inclusive and assess their needs comprehensively.
- Manage your classes confidently.
- Explore planning thoroughly and develop concrete strategies that ensure all learners are included and learn within realistic boundaries.
When I’m not working, I love cooking, studying wine and running around after my two boys and dogs.
