ELT: Confident Young Learners Teaching Essentials module 1
Starts 20 November 2023
This four-week course will take place online, four times a year. There will be online videos to watch and tasks to do before we meet for further input and group discussions. You will need to set aside 2-3 hours per week to get the most from the course.
We will explore ‘What are our learners like?’, ‘How they behave and why they behave in particular ways’. In our first lesson, ‘Understanding Young Learners’, we will look at our learners’ abilities, behaviours, and capabilities according to their age and second language learning perspective.
I will give you more precise guidelines for managing classes and dealing with challenging behaviour. We will explore this in considerable depth, and I hope to provide you with some essential tools and tips to help your classes run smoothly.
We will explore planning effectively to keep learners engaged and productive. We will also focus on instructions and the types of activities (stirrers and settlers) that will help you manage classes effectively.
I will give you teaching ideas and suggestions for teaching grammar and vocabulary to young learners. What to teach, how, when and resources to support your planning. This small but essential start will equip you with the tools to adapt lessons for your learners and support them effectively.

When the weekly sessions will take place is decided according to the needs of the group. If you are unable to attend, the sessions will be recorded so you can catch up.
If you are a school or institution days and sessions can be changed to suit your needs. You may want a more or less intensive format, please get in touch and we can talk.
